Why Aurora laundry rooms stall out
Clothes come out warm and still damp. You run a second cycle. The laundry room feels like a sauna. In Aurora that symptom usually traces back to where the builder put the laundry, not to the dryer itself. This is the largest-area suburb east and southeast of Denver, and the housing spread is broad. The run behind your wall is nothing like the one two subdivisions over.
Northwest Aurora's 1950s-60s ranches and small bungalows keep laundry in the basement. That means a long duct threaded through joist bays, with elbows at every turn and lint settling on the flat bottom. The 1970s-80s tri-levels and split-levels through the middle of the city hide transitions behind finished walls. Newer two-story builds toward E-470 put laundry upstairs, with an attic run up to a roof cap or out a gable wall. Vertical lift plus cold attic air equals condensation, and damp lint packs hard.
Then there is the outside end. Open plains push wind-driven dust and grass pollen straight at the housing. Spring and summer hail regularly damages exterior hoods and roof caps. A bent flap stops closing, birds and dust get in, and the blockage starts at the hood.
Check your termination from the ground first. If the flap does not lift when the dryer runs, the line is already restricted.

My laundry is on the second floor and the duct goes up into the attic — is that harder to clean?
It's a different job than a basement run. A lot of the newer east-side two-story builds put the washer and dryer on the bedroom level, and the duct climbs into the attic before turning to a roof cap or out a gable wall. We clean those from both ends where we can get at them: from the dryer connection inside, and from the exterior cap. Attic runs tend to sag between supports over time, and lint settles in the low spots, so we're checking for that along with a general coating. If the cap is on the roof, we check it from outside rather than guessing from inside the house.
What usually goes wrong with vents in the older northwest Aurora houses?
The 1950s and 60s ranches and bungalows through that part of the city almost always run laundry in the basement, and the duct travels a long way sideways through the joist bays before it reaches daylight. Long horizontal runs move air slowly, so lint drops out and builds along the bottom of the duct. We also see old flex or foil pipe still in place from an earlier dryer, crushed where it was pushed back against the wall, and tape joints that have let go. Those houses are the ones where people notice towels taking two cycles long before they think about the vent.
Hail took out our exterior vent hood last spring. Does that affect the vent itself?
It can, and this comes up every year here. Spring and summer hail beats on exterior hoods and roof caps, and a cracked or flattened hood stops the damper from closing and sealing. Once that happens, the opening is wide for birds and for the dust and grass pollen the wind carries off the plains east of town, and that debris mixes with lint into a dense plug near the end of the duct. When we clean, we tell you plainly what shape the hood or cap is in. Replacing a damaged one is straightforward and worth doing while the vent is already open.
How fast can you get out to a house in Aurora?
Aurora is the largest-area suburb out here, and we cover it from the older northwest sections across to the newer subdivisions near E-470. Scheduling depends partly on where in the city you are and what else is booked that day on that side. Most routine cleanings land within a few days of calling. If your dryer is running hot, shutting off mid-cycle, or taking several times as long as it used to, say so when you call and we'll work you in sooner.
